Updated: Sep 2, 2022

By Elizabeth Gracen:

The Flapper Press Poetry Café Emerging Poets Series features the work of poets from around the world, celebrating creative expression through poetry. This week we share the work of Pavithra.

Pavithra

Pavithra is currently doing her post-graduate degree in India. She is an avid reader who loves poetry and the arts. During her free time, writing is her favorite hobby. You can read more of her work and follow her adventures on her personal blog here.

EG: How did you come to poetry? Why do you write?

P: My English teacher inspired me to write poetry and made me believe that I can be a poet too. I started to pen down my thoughts and finally learned the mastery of turning it into a simple poem.

EG: What do you hope people will feel or understand about your poetry?

P: My poems are not that complicated to read, and it's often quite relatable. I want my readers to look at my poems and say, "That's how I feel too!" Reaching out and relating to someone's feelings is the most comforting thing to do, and that is what I would like to deliver to my readers.

Nature is always young, wild ,and beautiful. It's quite admirable to see the strength of those little flowers, leaves, fragile petals holding on or even falling gracefully, despite all the harsh conditions. Life is not always rainbows and unicorns. It can be hard sometimes; but don't forget to carry yourself elegantly. No season, climate, or disaster stays forever, and neither do your problems.

Tanka Poem

Heavy wind blew

trembling the soft dainty petals

while dancing to its tune

stood a cherry blossom

young and free

Apathetic means having or showing little or no emotion; not interested. I think being apathetic is sometimes good so that we don't really judge, gossip, or criticize others. We all should learn to accept and embrace both the bright and dark side of a person because they are what makes them who they are.

My Apathetic Self

Monsters with friendly faces

angels with scars

tell me, who am I to figure you

when we see each other as bizarre.

leave him, he is a monster

don’t talk, she is bad

tell me, who am I to judge you

behind the mask, we all are just sad

vengeance behind those pretty faces

laughed and lied behind my back

tell me, who am I to forgive you

in this colorful world, all I see is white and black

tell me one plus two is eight

I’ll laugh and say you’re right

cause I know changing you is like

asking the sun to come at night.

Dream destination is not always about a particular place or country. It is those little things, views, memories, people, or even food which makes that place beautiful and special.

Dream Destination

Mystical neverland

or the land of oz

plot from flight of fancy

where expectations often

blooms in fantasy

I dream of a small cabin

in the lost woods

with a furry little friend

beside the loved one of mine

garden in backyard with rich vegetables

Smiling flowers and meadows to pass by

distant from sophisticated and rich

desire to have a tranquil life

breezy winds at dawn

aurora sky to gaze at night

far away from cosmopolitan

to sing my heart with the sky

I’ll live beside the plains and mountains

dream destination they ask

how can I explain to them

it is more than just a place!?
