By Angel Lopez:
This year has been a long, wild road. I know for myself that I’ve been challenged in ways like I never have before. Of course, last year was already full of many challenges, but this year has been a special kind of antagonist. We’ve had to recognize that the old way of life is dead, and we’ve had no choice but to find a new path forward for ourselves. Even if we were going back to the same job or living in the same home, we still had to adjust to relating to these parts of our lives in brand-new ways. This last month of the year continues us along that path, but it really asks us to look within and closely around us.
What are the internal shifts we still need to make in response to this new chapter?
What belief systems are holding us back from fully evolving?
And who are the people that really stand in our corner?
These are the questions to ponder as we close out 2021.
December finds us in the midst of Sagittarius Season, a time when you can look to understand what it is you believe in. Sagittarius is also really interested in seeing life as an adventure. It wants you to explore and follow your inquisitive whims. You can’t help but feel a desire to move beyond your comfort zone.
This month kicks off with a gorgeous Sagittarius New Moon, which offers you an opportunity to form new intentions around your personal philosophies and how you’re living by them in your life.
You also get to change your mind, too. You may find that you’ve had a limited way of thinking when it comes to your abilities or goals. Now you can shift whatever negative mental outlooks have been plaguing you for far too long and move them into a new, helpful direction. Sure, this kind of work doesn’t happen overnight; but you have a greater shot at setting some new mental rules that don’t include the monsters of pessimism.
Venus, the planet of relationships, is in Capricorn, and she will make an important alignment with Pluto, the planet of transformation, on December 11th. Due to its retrograde (which will occur on the 19th), Venus will be spending three more months in Capricorn, a sign that has her interested in investing in partnerships that will go the distance. This time could bring you a depth of connection that shows you who matters, but it may come with its share of harsh truths. Power dynamics come into play, showing where an imbalance may exist. You can’t have an honest, supportive relationship with someone when there’s any sense of inequity. If they can’t evolve to meet your needs, then you’ll need to adjust your commitment to them or find ways to move on to stronger relationship pastures.
You’re going to learn how you want to be treated moving forward. The challenge will then be teaching others how to follow suit.
On December 13th, two planets switch into new signs, making for a day of shifting energies. Mars, the planet of action, moves into Sagittarius, helping support the themes already at play. You get some additional oomph in moving toward activities and experiences that align with your beliefs. You may find that it becomes hard to give yourself over to anything that lacks excitement and passion. You’ll need to move toward greater adventure, so the day in/day out routine may begin to bore you. Do your best not to check out of any necessary responsibilities. Perhaps you can find some ways to approach them with a renewed sense of exploration. That day, Mercury also shifts into Capricorn, showing you how the planet of communication wants you thinking about your larger goals. What are your ambitions, and how are your thoughts and ideas supporting them?
It’s time to shift your mentality and apply yourself.
The combination of these two energies is good for putting work toward goals that serve your own desires and not exactly someone else’s. Put your needs first.
The Gemini Full Moon occurs on December 18th, which always brings with it an opportunity to release any mental tomfoolery you’ve been consumed in. Where have you been overthinking and evading intuition? Now is the time to disconnect from the story you’ve created for your life and get in touch with the reality of your now. You may be able to expose a disconnect between the life you think you have versus the life you’re actually living. It’s a very good “get real” moment, and it doesn’t have to hurt. In fact, you may find that you’ve been thinking negatively about something that is actually a gift in your life. Or you may believe one to be an enemy when in reality they’re a helpful hero.
Be open to any mental winds of change.
The Sun moves into Capricorn on the 21st, following Mercury’s lead toward shifting your attention to the greater ambitions of your life. What do you really care about manifesting, and how are you standing in your own way? Plant some seeds now that could help you achieve any purpose you feel in your heart. This will be backed up heavily when Jupiter shifts into Pisces on the 28th. In this sign, Jupiter wants to grow your dreams. But you need to make sure that these dreams align with your soulful calling or else you’ll just be building a tower of cards. Don’t fool yourself into believing you want something that’s really just wanted in order to impress others. Your ambitions and dreams must solely be your own.
Lastly, December 23rd brings the last of three squares between Saturn, the planet of responsibility, and Uranus, the planet of authenticity and change. These two very different energies have been dipping in and out of this challenging angle all year, showing all of us how we possibly give our authority away to others, causing us to squash our most authentic nature. This aspect has been the defining point of this year, setting the tone for the greater theme. Consider how you’ve been pushed to show up as you really are, or where you’ve been feeling challenged to do so.
Are you still doing things in ways that don’t feel true to you?
Are you waiting for others to give you permission to be you?
Are you accepting the call to change in areas of your life that desperately need it?
Now is the time to really check yourself and make sure that you’re asserting your truth. It will serve you well in the long run and allow you to enter this new year with a greater sense of personal confidence and excitement.
